Self-awareness
Have you ever heard of self-awareness? It's all about knowing yourself and what you're feeling or thinking at any given moment. But did you know there are deeper levels to explore? Let's talk about two of them: interoception and exteroception.
Interoception is all about knowing what's happening inside your body. For example, hunger, thirst, or feeling your heartbeat. Take a moment to check in with yourself. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and scan your body. Do you feel any tension? If so, gently squeeze that muscle and then relax it.
Exteroception is all about your body's sensitivity to things outside of it, like temperature or your five senses. Take a moment to look around your room and notice something you don't usually notice. What do you hear? Touch a nearby surface and notice the texture. What do you smell? Finally, notice the taste in your mouth.
By focusing on both interoception and exteroception, you can calm your body and mind when you're feeling anxious. So take a moment to check in with yourself and your surroundings. It can make a big difference in how you feel.
