Managing Thoughts
Sometimes, certain thoughts can bring up unsettling emotions. Whether it's thoughts about upcoming presentations, arguments with loved ones, or financial concerns, these thoughts can leave us feeling anxious, sad, or fearful.
But here's a simple technique that can help manage these thoughts. Imagine placing the thought in a book. Picture a beautiful book in your mind. Feel the texture of its cover, smell the book, and imagine its weight in your hands. Visualize the book in detail. Once you've fully imagined the book, recall the bothersome thought you want to find relief from. Imagine the worst part of that thought, whether it's the audience in a presentation or any aspect that brings discomfort. Now, picture that image on a polaroid and place it inside the book. Close the book and place it on a shelf.
Take a deep breath and let it go. Notice how you feel. If the bothersome image resurfaces, simply imagine the book in its place instead. See how it makes you feel. If you feel a bit better, try using this technique periodically and see how it goes.
